Overview
Mountain living by the sea, Julian sits at an elevation of 4,226 feet above sea level, yet is within an hour's drive of the coast at San Diego. It enjoys four seasons, including light snowfall during the winter months, and is considered an alpine woodland landscape. Known for its apple orchards and wine production, the town is famous for its apple pie restaurants and draws thousands of visitors each year to the western themed historic downtown. Julian experienced a gold rush in the mid 1800s as well, adding to the rich cultural heritage that defines this mountain enclave.

Transportation
Julian is located along State Highway 78 (SR 78) in the San Diego mountains. It can be reached from the south via Interstate 8 and SR 79 at Descanso Junction, or from the north via SR 79 and Interstate 15. It can also be reached from the west via SR 78 from Escondido. San Diego International Airport is approximately 40 minutes southwest via Interstate 8.
